I have long been fascinated by the boomerang used in various forms since pre-historic times as a weapon, hunting stick, or for sport. The returning boomerang is thought by some to have developed from the flattened throwing stick, still used by the Australian Aborigines and some other tribal peoples, including the American Navajo Indians. [1]
The boomerang principle is a special case of the first law of thermodynamics [2] applied to human interactions – doing good things for others will bring good things back to you. It’s similar to the concept of karma as described in the Indian Vedas. [3]
The boomerang principle results from giving more than you receive; from creating value for a client which is far beyond the amount of your fee; from delivering a product whose value to the customer is far beyond its price; from helping another person solve a difficult problem or overcome a great obstacle with no thought of compensation.
When you do these things, good things will in deed come back to you. Your reward may come in the form of direct compensation from a happy client or customer, referrals for new clients or customers, the psychic income of helping another person, or indirectly in the form of energy reflected back to you from the cosmos. But it will come.
Try the boomerang principle – offer value, sound advice, and
genuine helpfulness in every business interaction and good things will come
back to you.
