A recent post encouraged owner/CEOs to stop dawdling and take advantage of the slack economy to reinforce their management teams with high-quality new talent. Hanging out a “Help Wanted” sign will not, however, likely get the job done.
You need a quality hiring process to ensure that you hire the right people. In a recent article, Jim Jones [1] at the Kenan-Flagler Business School suggests several helpful steps to consider:
- Clearly define the skills needed for the position(s)
- Design your selection process to assess whether candidates actually possess the needed skills
- The best candidate for the job may come from a background different from what you expect
- Reference check. Reference check. Reference check.
